ABOUT
i Care

OUR HISTORY

For 20 years, World Harvest Church, a small community church at 3400 Woodland Avenue on the east side of Troost Avenue, has served as a humble center for care and unconditional love in a low-income African American community in the heart of poverty in Kansas City, Missouri.  The dream of this humble church was that the neighborhood would be transformed into a Village full of hope.  From this spirit, iCare Village of Hope, Inc. was born.

iCare Village is located at 3400 Woodland Avenue, and is an IRS approved tax-exempt 501c3 nonprofit organization.  As the local church, World Harvest is the heart of the village ministry.  iCare Village works in concert with World Harvest to hold property, facilitate giving from partners, support ministry and social enterprise, and provide structure and accountability.  Our collective mission is to break the orphan cycle in our neighborhood through the power of community and commerce.

With the local church at the heart, iCare is dedicated to caring for children and families in crisis in our own community and transforming our neighborhood into a Village that cares for one another.  In addition to the day-to-day support and love of children and families in our Village, iCare:

·   Supports and cares for the physical building for the local church and healthy food market;

·   Provides safe homes to families at-risk of losing their children to the foster care system;

·   Operates a healthy food market, where families can affordably access fruits, vegetables, and meats, primarily from local farmers;

·   Owns and cares for a small community park that includes an apple orchard, blackberry bushes, and soon-to-be-added village gardens, a community basketball court, and a beautiful community meeting area that will be used by local caseworkers of the Jackson County Children’s Division for family reunification visits with moms, dads, and their children in foster care;

·   Operates a World Harvest local church CarePortal ministry in the heart of the city to support children and families in crisis, in partnership with The Global Orphan Project;

·   Facilitates job internships in partnership with the Full Employment Council and the Americorps Vista program, so talented young men and women can break the orphan cycle through the dignity of work.

A central tenet of our mission is to build “commUnity,” with a capital U.  At a time of extreme division in our nation, especially racial division, we invite friends and partners from all around the KC Metro to get relationally involved with us in our work.  When we care for children and families together, love and unity explodes forth.
